Bro Code

The Bro Code, which is cited from Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) via How I Met Your Mother, is a book that consist of rules and conducts for Bros to follow and treat as one's religion. It was published in October 2008; however, it has been used by Barney in How I Met Your Mother since its premiere in September 2005.

Barney Stinson was once accused in an episode of How I Met Your Mother of following his own set of rules and his comeback was "In the year 1776, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington were having a drink in Philadelphia when Franklin accused Washington of "codpiece block[ing]" him. Washington remarked there was no rule against it and Franklin insisted that there should be. Barnabus Stinson stepped in and offered to write this collection of rules when Franklin and Washington each said they were too busy."[1]

The Bro Code can be considered a humorous book for its many remarks of sexual and physical content. According to The Bro Code, "A Bro is a person who would give you the shirt off his back when he doesn't want to wear it anymore. A Bro is a person who will bend over backwards to help you bend someone else over backwards. In short, a Bro is a lifelong companion you can trust will always be there for you, unless he's got something else going on." [2] Also concluded from the definition, "You don't need to be a guy to be somebody's Bro, provided you uphold the moral values contained within this sacred canon. When a women sets a guy up with her busty friend, she's acting as a Bro. And if she sets him up with other hot friends after he slept with the first one and never called her again, then she's officially his Bro." [3]

Editorial Reviews say "Everyone's life is governed by an internal code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. But Bros in the know call this holy grail The Bro Code. " [4] This publication developed from a series into a book and along followed books by Barney Stinson with Matt Kuhn called Bro on the Go and The Playbook.

History and Brocabulary

The Bro Code originated from How I Met Your Mother into a book on how to pick up chicks and rules to abide by through the process. In early history there were no rules to follow in Bro sense, therefore the first Broicide was committed by Cain and Abel through Cain's killing of Abel. Leaving him without a wing man to pick up chicks, he killed himself.[5]
